Percy Jackson and the last Olympian, 3rd post

In this post I am going to speak about the environment and how it's described.

The most detailed descriptions in the book is about people and monsters. No wonder, because the environments is shifting too fast for the author to actually have to describe it properly. Mostly, they simply don't play such an important role for the events, rather than people and creatures. Maybe this is also because the book is last of five, and some places have already been described.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the book is more or less described from Percy's point of view, although Percy is mentioned as "Percy", and not "I" or "me". This affects the telling, and thereby the descriptions. This is a quote from the beginning:

"It was almost dark by the time we spotted our target. The Princess Andromeda glowed on the horizon - a huge cruise ship lit up yellow and white. From a distance, you'd think it was just a party ship, not the headquarters for the Titan lord. Then, as you got closer, you might notice the giant figurehead - a dark maiden in a Greek chiton, wrapped in chains with a look of horror on her face, as if she could smell the stench of all the monsters she was being forced to carry."

This tells us about a ship in a pretty typical way by Percy, with a sense of humor but still a bit scary. As I said, creatures are often described much, but not as much the look of the monster species as the feeling you get when you see them, or the mood they are in, even still often with a sense of humor.

Percy Jackson The Last Olympian, 2nd post

In this post I am going to talk about the mood the author wants to create. As I mentioned in first post, the story consists of many fast turns and very different environments. Overall though, there are also many humoristic elements and ironic situations, which actually makes everything feels a little less scary or sad or whatever the current mood it is meant to make you feel. Maybe the haste plays its part too, in reducing the feeling. My personal opinion is that this is mostly good, because the story doesn't stuck anywhere, making sure you REALLY feel something, instead you feel sad for a short moment, then turn the page and get to know what is coming next. Maybe the author could have stopped a little more, but then it wouldn't feel like a Percy Jackson book for me, since I've read almost all of them. The way they are told makes you both exalted and disappointed somehow while you're reading them.

Milo's Wolves- last post

I have now read the whole book. I recently found out that there is three clones of Gwendal, and Laura and Milo travels back home from France without Gwendal. Eventually Gwendal comes back to England to his family. He starts school and he is happy.

Laura gets a friend, Marie-Claire and they get really close.


One day, Milo went to Nathan Culfire's house. There he ends up in a fight with him. It didn't turn out good, Milo ends up in coma but the book ends with him waking up.


I'm now going to talk about the language in the book.


In the book there is not so many hard words. But one thing is bothering me. It's bad paragraphing in the book, I can't really understand when there is a new day or a new time of the day because the text seems to be sticking together. The author only jumps in a bit on the row. She does that even when it is a new day, and that makes me confused. This doesn't have such a big impact on the story because you still understand what's happening, but I find it tremendously disturbing. Otherwise the language is quit good in the book, not to hard and not to easy.


In the end of the story everything goes very fast. On the 15 last pages Laura gets a friend, they get really close and Milo ends up in a coma and he wakes up. It's too much happening. It felt like the author just wanted to get a classic happy ending of the story and that made the end a big disappointment. It would have been better if Laura started to know Marie-Claire earlier in the book and if Milo didn't wake up from his coma. That would make the reader reflect more about the story I think.


Now I will talk about the mood that the author wants to create.


I think the author wants to create a special mood. She wants to create excitment and mystery. She creates excitment for example; when she lets the reader know that Jean tells something to Gwendal but the reader doesn't find out what he tells until later. The author creates mystery by just calling the book Milo's Wolves. That makes you think that there is some person who has a lot of wolves. But the truth is that there isn't wolves, instead it's persons who's being called wolves. I think the author wanted to create these special moods too give the reader a impression that Gwendal is mysterious.


I like the mystery and excitment in the book because It makes me want to read more.

The saddest girl in the world – Third post

I have now read to page 245 in the book "the saddest girl in the world" by Cathy Glass. When I read this week I was looking on the environment and how that is described. I think the environment is described well in the book; it's not too much and not too little.

The environment in Danna's real home is described very well, and I think it's because you shall understand how awful it is. For example, the author is describing how dirty clothes and dishes everywhere and how the floor is full of newspapers to cover the dirt and feces from the animals. The author are describing very well that the house is very dirty and not okay at all to live in. I think it's very good that the environment in Donnas "real" house is described so good, because of that I could get a picture of how awful environment she lived in and it is making the impression stronger.

The environment around Cathy, Donna's foster carer, is also described very well. Not as much as Donnas real home, but so much that you can understand how the environment around her is. The environment around Cathy is nice and comfortable and the environment in her house is described very organized. There are rules you have to follow, for example the children aren't allowed in the kitchen because it's not safe there for the foster children. During the book I got more and more impression that Cathy's home is very safe and organized.

Like I said in the beginning the environment is not described too much and not too little. I think its perfect described and if it would bee more it would be nagging and just get annoying. The author has put a perfect focus on the environment!

Alex rider fick flyga till london, han skulle stoppa Herod Sayle som skulle Skicka ett virus bland alla datorer i hela världen. Alex rider to ett plan där mr grin var. alex rider smög in till planet och drog upp sitt vapen som han fick av vakterna han har slagit ner. Mr grin Såg sur ut och började genast och spring fram till honom. Men Alex rider siktade och sköt mitt framför Mr grin som Blev så arg. Alex rider sa att han skulle flyga till london. Mr grin sa inget, han börja att gå och flög dit. alex rider var rädd och var vaken hela tiden. Tills klockan var fem i tolv. Då började alex att bli stressad han hade bara fem minuter att Döda herod sayle innan han har skickat viruset som skulle sprida runt om hela världen. Som tur Hoppade alex ut ur planet. Han hade en fallskärm, och då så hann han och siktade genast och sa STOP!. så sköt Alex Rider På Herod sayles Hand så att han började att blöda. Han ringde Polisen medans han siktade på herod sayle. Han sa att han undra om att han skulle återvända till en skolpojke. ja sa chefen. Chefen gav Alex Rider Diplom och sa hoppas att vi ses igen.

Linger - fifth and last post

Now I´ve finished the book and I’m not going to retell everything that I’ve read because in the Easter holiday I’ve read over 300 pages. The last chapters went past very fast because I just wanted to know the solution of the story and how the whole book would end. But I noticed that after four weeks of reading in English I’ve become more and more comfortable  with the language and less and less used to read Swedish texts.

The book starts with “This is the story about a boy who used to be a wolf and a girl who was becoming one.” I´ve thought a lot about that line because Maggie Stiefvater has chosen to end “Linger” with the exact same line as in the beginning. When I read it on the first page I thought about what she wanted me to think, which conclusions did she want me to make? My thoughts went wild about what she really meant with that line as her story starter. She must be really smart to put that sentence first in the book. After that you desperately need to read on to see what she means. And you get your answer in the last two chapters so you’re eager to read all the time.  I got a little annoyed about it because she hadn’t written anything about Grace was near to shift into a werewolf in the first book. It came as a lightning from clear sky for me, as you would say in Swedish. But now afterwards I think it was that sentence that made “Linger” my temporary drug. Even though I later on forgot the sentence and got completely overwhelmed by the story.
I can’t wait until July 12^th this summer when the third and last book in the series releases. And I’ve decided that I’m going to read it in English because everything felt more closely described and well written than when I read “Frost”. But also because it’s so much fun reading and learning English! J (Or it’s because the book won’t show up in stores on Swedish much later than the English one…) I’ve also considered reading “Linger” and “Forever” (the third book) in Swedish so I can compare if the English version really is better than the Swedish. Maybe I will keep reading in English after that.
I’m still stuck in Maggie Stiefvater’s way of writing. She catches that specific emotion and creates the perfect balance of the environment and the characters behavior in every situation in an excellent way. Now when I’ve started to read a new book I think the “new” author is far behind in her writing skills. But maybe I hadn’t thought that way if I hadn’t been reading Linger by wonderful Maggie Stiefvater.

Dead until dark - fifth and last post

The girl Bill brought into the bar was a gift from Eric, a thanks for helping out. Bill had her sent back, and Sookie and Bill went on a date.

 Afterwards Bill drop Sookie of at her place. When Bill had left and when Sookie had just shut the door something hit it. It was her cat, killed by strangling. Sookie was worried that a murderer was nearby. The same murderer that had killed Maudette, Dawn and Sookies´ grandmother.

A few nights later Bill tell Sookie he have to leave for a few days. He leaves a friend behind to keep Sookie safe from the murderer. The friend was called Bubba, and he was very familiar. Ha was a singer when he was a human but he was never the same after becoming a vampire. He was the one and only king. He was Elvis Presley.

One night Sookie met a collie outside Merlotte´s. It was homeless so Sookie brought it home. Later the dog fell asleep next to Sookie. In the morning it was not a dog laying in the bed beside her, but a human. It was Sam, her boss. At first she freaks out but when she calms down Sam tell her hi is a shape shifter. Sookie is mad at him because he intruded on her personal life, so she threw him out.

Some nights later Sookie heard something outside her window. She got up to see what it was. Nothing! Sookie was worried, and Bubba was nowhere to be seen. She decided to call the police but her phone was dead. The closest house was Bills´. She decided to run through the woods and over the cemetery.

The killer catch up to her, it was Rene Lainer. He attacks, still with vampire blood in her system she fights back when he tries to kill her. Sookie stabs him with a knife she managed to take from him. Then she manage to get to Bills´ house, and dial 911 before she colaps.

She wakes up in the hospital where the police tell her that Rene has been caught. Later Bill comes to visit to make sure she is all right. Eric and Sam also make a quick and odd stop by.

That's where the story ends.

In this book the vampires live among humans, they can even order blood in bars. The reason to why Rene kill people was because they where fang bangers, people who sleep with vampires. The first one he killed was his one sister.

As I mentioned before the book stayed interesting and I hope the others will to. I liked the book, and the story was well thought through.

Uglies - fourth and last post

Uglies – last post

Since the last time I wrote I have read more than 350 pages and I have to say that this is a very good book! I can really recommend it to you, but don´t try to read it in Swedish, I did and it wasn´t so very good. This book is split into 3 parts I think, so I don´t know how it ends. But here is the summary of the first book.

After Tally has been out in the wild for about 10 days she gets to the Smoke. There everybody is welcoming her and Shay is very happy that she has come. She meets David and they are showing her around in the Smoke. When Tally was in the interrogation room with the leader of the cruel pretties, she received a bracelet with an "alarm" so she could push it when she had arrived to the Smoke and the cruel pretties would be there in a couple of hours. But when she got there she realized that she couldn´t do it. She wanted to stay there in the smoke and live with the smokies and with David because she had fallen in love with him. But Shay and David was sort of together already and Shay became very angry with Tally when she realized that they now were together. Then by a mistake Tally set the alarm on and the next day the cruel pretties were all over the place and caught the smokies and burned the place down. But Tally succeeded to escape and she found David who had also escaped. Together they returned to Tallys hometown to save some of the prisoners that the cruel pretties had taken, for example David´s parents and Shay. But when they got there they discovered that David´s father was dead and Shay has been operated into a pretty. But still they managed to escape and they traveled to the Rusty Ruins, and now a rumor has spread that a new Smoke is going to be made and a lot of uglies from the dorm is traveling there just to be a part of it. David´s parents had for a long time ago come up with a theory about that when you is operated you get a sort of virus stuck into your brain that makes not only the outside beautiful, the inside is changing to. You will become a totally different person, and that is what Shay has become now. She thinks that the Smoke is stupid and she just wants to party the whole time. But David´s mom thinks that she has found a cure to the virus and she wants to test it on Shay, but Shay doesn´t want that and David´s mom don´t want to force her because it's a small chance that something can go wrong. Tally then feel her guiltiness for that she has betrayed the smoke, David and Shay so she says that she will be operated into a pretty and then David can rescue her and they will give here the pills to cure the virus. And the book ends with that Shay and Tally comes into the town, and a guard sees them and she says: "I´m Tally Youngblood, make me pretty".  

I think that this book is really good! It reflects on what could happened in the future if we not are careful with our planet and our way of locking on each other. I think that the writer did a good point when she wrote about anorexia and thickness and when Shay said that she couldn´t understand how we wanted to look like that it also made a good point.  I think that it is important to notice where our society is going and attended specially the young, unsecure people who hasn´t any confidence and say to them that they are beautiful as they are.

This week I haven´t got any experience of my one to relate to, but I have one thing. Tally's and David's relationship is so very special and exiting and that is a thing I hope to experience some day, a true love with a little troubles.

This book is really great, like I said earlier, and I´m going to read the rest of the books in this series and then I´m going to post my view of the books on this blog!

The saddest girl in the world – second post

I have now reached page 170 in my book "The saddest girl in the world" now. This week I'm going to write about the mood the author wants to create and how it's done. I think the meaning of this book was to make people think about all the horrible things that can happen to people, especially children because they are in a liable position.

The mood in this book is very sad and when I read the book I really feel the pain that Donna has. The author describes how the person acts so you really can feel the pain. For example, you can read in the book when Cathy, Donna's carer, sees Donna for de first time: "she looked so dreadfully, dreadfully sad. Her big brown eyes were downcast and her shoulders were slumped forward as though she carried the weight of the world on them. Whiteout doubts she was the saddest-looking child I had ever seen." In the book everything is described with details and also very well, so you really can understand what Donnas has been through and why she acts like she does.

When I read one chapter named "Dirt" the author really made me feel how evil Donnas mum was. In the chapter Donna stands and washes and scrubs her hands for a long time. Cathy tries to make her stop and Donna said: "mum says I have to wash all the dirt off, but it won't come off. I keep trying". Donna's hands are very clean and Cathy doesn't understand until later. Donna was trying to wash away her skin color because Donna's mother had said to her that she was dirty and that was why her skin was dark. One other time Donna wants so buy bleach so she can make her skin white, because her mother had told her to do it.

The author wants to convey a feeling about how exposed children live their lives. The author also wants so convey how important it is for children to have a parent around that really cares for you, loves you and can take care of you in a good way. For almost every child it's naturally that the parent loves you, and you can't imagine how it would be if you parents didn't love or want you. I think the author really want to convey how awful situations children can be in and how a careless parent can destroy or leave a mark on a child for the rest of their lives.

Sagan om ringen - Härskarringen - femte inlägget

Jag är nu på tredje boken i trilogin om härskarringen och på sida 1105 av 1225.

Detta har det jag läst handlat om sedan jag skrev förra inlägget:

Frodo Sam och Gollum fortsätter sin vandring mot Mordor. För att komma in i landet måste dom klättra över några berg. Vad Frodo och Sam inte vet är att uppe bland bergen så bor det ett spindel-monster som kallas "Honmonstret".
Gollum och Honmonstret är sedan tidigare "bekanta" och Gollum hoppas att jättespindeln ska döda Sam och Frodo.

När dom kommit upp för bergen träffar som på Honmonstret. Hon överfaller Frodo och använder sig av ett gift mot honom
så att han svimmar. Sedan fjättrar hon Frodo med sin spindel-tråd. Det verkar som om att Frodo är död, och Sam blir otroligt
ledsen och arg på Honmonstret och lyckas stöta in ett svärd i ett av hennes ögon, och han lyckas skada henne mer med sitt svärd.
Monstret försvinner skadat iväg, och lämnar Frodo som ligger död och inlindad i spindelnät.
Under det hela så försvann Gollum.

Sam är såklart väldigt ledsen över Frodos död och han vill inte lämna Frodos kropp kvar ensam i bergen.
Men ändå så bestämmer han sig för att forttsätta vandringen in i Mordor för att förstöra ringen.
Sam börjar gå, men när han bara kommit en liten bit hör han orcher i närheten.
Dom har hittat Frodos kropp och dom bestämmer sig för att ta med sig kroppen till sin fästning.

Sam följer efter orcherna i hopp om att kunna rädda Frodos kropp.

Pippin och gandalf rider mot staden Minas Tirith i Gondor.
När dom kommer fram till staden beger sig dom genast till stadens härrrskare, Denerthot, som är far till Boromir och Faramir.

För Denerthot berättar dom om Boromirs död. Efter det så svär Pippin en trohets ed mot Denerthot, för att visa sin tacksamhet
mot att Boromir röddade hans liv.

Aragon  bestämmer sig för att gå en väg som kallas Dödens stig.
Legolas, Gimli och Dunedain följer honom.

Merry, Aragon, Legolas, Gimli och Kung Théoden och hans män träffar på några män som visar sig vara utbytesjägare, precis som
Aragon. Männen kallas Dunedain.

Merry, kung Théoden och hans män återvänder till Rohan, där dom möts av en stor armé av krigare och ryttare från hela landet.
Merry, kungen och hans marskalkar kaptener sätter sig i ett tält för att rådslå om vad som nu ska göras. Då kommer det en budbärare från Gondor, sänd av Denethor. Han vill att hela Rohans armé ska komma till Gondor för att hjälpa dom i det stundande kriget.

Morgonen därpå så kallar kungen till sig Merry. Kungen sa att han nu skulle ge sig av till Gondor med sin
armé. Men att Merry inte skulle få följa med, utan att han kulle stanna tillsammans med sin brorsdotter Éowyn.

En ung soldat vid namn Dernhelm sa till Merry att om han ville kundehan få sitta frampå dennes häst när han red med armmén mot Gondor.
Detta ville Merry gärna, för han ville inte lämnas kvar när alla hansvänner var ute i striden.
Så red kung Théoden, hela Rohans armé och Merry iväg mot kriget i Gondor.

I Gondor har Faramir återvänt. Men hans återkomst är den ända bra nyhet som kommer. Överallt verkar fienders trupper och arméer ta över. Faramir skickas genast iväg, igen, av sin far. Tillsammans med en trupp, för att försvara en fästning en bit bort från staden.
När den truppen sedan återvänder har dom med sig en svårt skadad Faramir.

Merry, Kung Théoden och armén från Rohan kommer fram till Gondor, där striden påbörjats.
Under striden visar soldaten som Merry fick rida med, vara Éowyn. I striden så dör Kung Théoden av Rohan. Merry och Éowyn skadas båda svårt. Men ändå så lyckas dom vinna striden, med hjälp av Aragon som återvände från Dödens stig.

Allting lugnar ner sig lite och Merry får äntligen träffa Pippin igen! :D

Men dom skiljs snart åt igen. Aragon och dom andra har kommit överens om att skicka en trupp till
Mordor, för att få Saourons öga på annat håll än Frodo.
Merry är skadad sedan kriget så han får inte följa med till Mordor nu, men Pippin kan dom inte förbjuda att följa med.

I Mordor möts dom av en armé orcher, och en häftig strid börjar...

I en annan del av Mordor söker Sam Frodo. Han lyckas hitta honom och dom två hoberna flyr ut i Mordors vilda
marker, mot Eldberget. Det ända stället där ringen kan förstöras.

I boken händer det mycket hela tiden. Det finns massa saker som man borde hålla reda på medan man läser. Som t.ex. Vem som är vem, vilka som är goda eller onda, vad olika platser heter m.m. Det kan bli rörigt och ibland lite svårt att förstå. 

Om man läser mycket på en gång kan det bli tråkigt att fortsätta läsa.

Och om man bara läser en bit av boken kan man lätt glömma bort vad som har hänt nästa gång man ska läsa.

Men jag tycker boken är bra och spännande. Speciellt nu i slutet. J
